I read the books and they were the best… I bet the tv show will be amazing, I can’t wait!

elena dies at the end of the frist book.
she wake upp as a vampire in the second fights katherin and dies again. in the middle of the book.in the second part klaus comes and attacks every one. in the end of that book. the group (bonnie meridith stephan damon and caroline). they get ingured baddly
. elena comes back a spirit and heals every one and takes klaus back with her.
when she dissapears stephan calls her name , she comes back naked. as a spirit child in a teenagers body.
in the third book, she can’t talk. and she doesnt remeber anyone but stephan. and something powerfull and dangerous comes to the town. and startes possesing girls.
caroline to start with, when they try to figure out what happened elena “wakes up” and remembers every thing and loses her powers. a day after that, stephan goes missing. then damon becomes possed worse than the girls because the “malach” can turn it on and off. elena remember her powers and gets the monster out of damon.
damon becomes on her side. in the end they elena remembers how to fly and saves meridith and bonnie from the malachs man trees.
afterwards elena damon and matt go off to find stephan, damon goes because the twins only gave him the riddle and matt goes because caroline framed him.
and her father (a jugde) is after him.

Get your facts straight please, she does not die in the first book. You may need to reread the book again because at the end of the first book stefan goes missing. There’s a few people of this site correcting Stefan’s name. It is spelled ‘Stefan’ in the book. Also, I wouldn’t really call anything from the books ‘spoilers’ yet because there are only a couple things that follow along with the book.

It’s not even that the “sparkle,” they have MARBLE-like skin, thats why the vampires in Twilight are so cold, and when they step out into the sun, the light reflects off of their *COLD MARBLE-SKIN*! Anybody who actually read the book would know this, and it’s retarded that people just go around saying that “oh its so gay that vampires sparkle.” seriously? Look at the fact that they are cold-blooded vampires, and that their marble skin is an effect of that. Plus, I would LOVE it if my man “sparkled”! Ha.

The TV series of Vampire Diaries for sure is 2000 material along with Twilight, Harry Potter, and True Blood. But the book Vampire Diaries is 1990 material. Slowly and surely the other books of Vampire Diaries are 2000 materials.

I read these books back when they were first published as a kid. They were great! So were LJ Smith’s other books about other supernatural stuff. Can’t wait to see the show!

I never read true blood although my friends talked about it constantly I saw that it was coming to HBO at comic con 2008. I really wanna try the drink haha. I did read Vampire Diaries and i think the 3rd book left us a cliff hanger…, so we’re getting a 4th book watch out for that. I love this series I also saw the first episode that you guys will be watching tomorrow at comic-con Preview night July 22nd 2009 so have fun watching it. Because the first time they said the name before we saw the pilot 3 people in the audience were screaming, after the show aired the whole room was amazed let me tell you this is way more popular then Twilight (Twilight ruined comic-con fyi). It has some big shoes to fill though, comparing to True Blood plus i mean take out the sex scenes… yeah. Well other then that I’m wondering if anyone has read Generation Dead and the sequel to which i cant remember the name of… and do you think they should make it into a TV show or Movie. The Vampire Diaries was a book serise published in 1993. That was wayyyy before True Blood or Twilight ever came out. So there is no way that it copied off of those shows/movies. If anything, they copied off of The Vampire Diaries.

No, it really was published in the 1990′s. L.J. Smith just recently RE-released the Vampire Diaries and the Nightworld series. The book that was JUST published was Return of Nightfall, which is a continuation of the Vampire Diaries and focuses more on Damon. I read most of L.J. Smith’s books, including the Vampire Diaries, when I was in junior high during the late 1990′s. She’s been around for quite a while, long before True Blood or Twilight.
i definately agree. i read all of Smiths books when they first came out as well. and i believe that meyers got numerous ideas about her vampires from the night world series. how many other stories are there that werewolves and vampires are mortal enimies?

Alright, guys. If we’re going to start accusing everyone of copying other works, let’s give some credit to some literature from 1897. Dracula, anyone? People like the idea of vampires, especially in our society. It’s a thrilling idea. Hence, does it not make sense that more than one author, director, movie producer, etc. would want to capitalize on the whole “vampire phenomenon?” The authors aren’t suing anyone over copyright infringements, therefore they do not feel that their work is being reproduced for profit. The notion of vampires has been around for centuries. Just because you’re proud that you read a book doesn’t mean it was the original.
Amen Momozombie!!! They are all copies from the Original Dracula! Different setting, diffrent age group, similar concept. True Blood is great, But still not as good as Interview with the Vampire.
Vampire diaries was written first and then true blood and then twilight however true blood is the best show i think.
I have to agree that True Blood is the most well directed one, and more for an adult audience. Whereas Twilight is for the youngest. And i’d say The Vampire Diaries is for the teens.

I actually kind of like this show. I guess I will have to read the books now. I just finished reading the True Blood series since that show came out but it looks like I will be working on this series as well. I think I prefer True Blood to this show but I’m also two seasons into TB and this just started so we shall see what I think then. Twilight is not even remotely close to this. What a ridiculous series, such a waste of paper and my time. That is like 4 years of my life I will never get back (I had to finish the series because I am OCD about reading and once I start a series I HAVE to finish it). Hope the series turns out well. First of I read the Vampires Diaries when they were first published, And I am pretty sure they came before true blood. As far as the bashing of Vamp. Diaries to each their own. it. If Vampire Diaries follows the books it”s bound to be a great show. I have yet to check out True Blood I’ve heard about it, however I have yet to take the time out to watch / read it, but I suppose I should that way I can compare the shows.
I think we all get which books were first and so on. Is it really necessary to say four or five times that TVD was first then TB then Twilight? It’s not that important. I have yet to watch this series, but I would like to since I read the books when I was a teen. I also have not watched TB but I would like to catch up on that as well. I loved the twist in Twilight, yes it’s different that a vamp sparkles in the sun, but it’s DIFFERENT and unique to the vamp ideas. I would also like to agree that it was very inappropriate to post that much of a spoiler, I mean you could have gotten your point across in other ways, why not just say that the third book made you sad. You didnt have to tell why, that ruined it for everyone that has not read the books.

I’ve read all of the Vampire Diaries, the entire Twilight, and watched both seasons of True Blood. They are all incredible stories in their own right. No, I don’t understand how the vamps in Twilight sparkled in the sun but it was an interesting twist.
As for the spoiler, anyone who read the books would know what happened, but that doesn’t mean that it’s going to happen in the show. Any book turned series/movie is going to be changed and adapted (look at the Harry Potters, for example), so don’t think that just because it happened in the book that it’s going to happen in the show. Also, you were told Elena dies, but the series continued… this means that those people were either:
1) not telling the whole story -or-
2) spreading rumors to piss everyone off
So why don’t you disregard the statement and watch the show to find out what REALLY happens. And please, don’t bash a show just because you don’t like it. Yes, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but that doesn’t mean you have to shove your opinion down everyone’s throats. Grow up and move on.
Vampire Diaries, Twilight, and True Blood ALL have great qualitied about them and I personally can’t choose a favorite because they’re have similar attributes, but are all so different as well.
Lastly, if you like Vampire Diaries, you need to check out L.J. Smith’s other book series called “The Secret Circle”. It’s not about vampires, but it still deals with the “occult”
secret circle was the best. it’s actually my favorit book series. i am looking for books 2 and 3 from when they were originally published. if you know where i might find them it would be appreciated.

I have read most of these replies. and when they refer to twilight and the vampire diaries. has anyone ever really read all the books published by L.J. Smith as well as the twilight series by stephenie meyers? if anyone did anything meyers got most of her ideas from Smith, there are just too many similarities about the vampires.

Dying is kind of what people do in vampire shoes/books, right? Plus, multiple deaths is usually a good sign of a plot twist, not a horrible end. Buffy died three times at least, and that dragged on for years. I second this year old opinion, give the series a try!

Sigh…Interesting to find out that there is, yet again, another vampire show.
Personally, I’m immediately put off. It’s not because of the show itself, but because of all the hype surrounding vampires at the moment, and in particular, the theme of “young girl meets vampire” love story.
Strange how all these shows and movies just seem to come out at the same time!
I read a lot, and yet have never read any of the Vampire Diaries series, so as books I understand from a lot of people that they are a great read. I also enjoyed reading Twilight, but found Meyer’s writing to be flawed and the last book was a bit annoying (as is all these screaming 12 year old girls begging ‘RPATZZ’ to bite them).
I’ve never read the Sookie Stackhouse novels either, but I have to say that I am a big fan of True Blood. It has finally given a realistic view point of how life would really be like if Vampires existed, taking in all the political and social factors. It isn’t afraid to shock people with it’s vivid sex scenes, gore and violence…because hey, that’s what Vamps are all about.
Although I can’t be quick to judge this new tv show, and I appreciate it may have a good plot…but, i cant help but find myself getting bored over my favourite genre, and this new “teeny boppy” feel to it all…it’s quite sad really.
Pick up a copy of The Vampire Lestat by Anne Rice…that’ll knock your socks off.

okay so first things first, i know im late but in twilight where they ‘sparkle’ in the sunlight… i think thats stephenie meyers unique print on vampire books, because you already had ‘weakened’ and ‘turned to ash’ after stepping into sunlight. making vampires sparkle was just her idea for her book, if you think low of the idea there isn’t any need to spread it, nobody here is in need to know you think that idea’s gay because this websites for Vampire Diaries, not twilight. Well, i suppose i have to say, i’ve read a lot of vampire series and novels and im pretty into the whole vampire thing.
Personally, i love True Blood and Twilight. I think they’re both fantastic since Twiligt focuses on the fantasy version of vampires while True Blood brings about how life would eally be like if vampires existed.
The Vampire Diaries, however, havnt done it for me yet. I like the storyline but the series has went way off the book by adding and deleting characters at random. But hey, what do i know about movie making?
I feel like this series is a week version of a vampire story, like its extremely unrealistic, but mabye thats what makes it so appealing? I dont know.
I also live Night world by the same writer at The Vampire Diaries. I think its a much better series while it focuses on supernatural beings as a whole as well as vampires.
If you like vampires, i would suggest both;
The Morganville Vampires – Rachel Caine
The House of Night Series – P.C and Kristen Cast
The mogranville vampires is basically the same as true blood with humans and vampires living together in (remote) harmony. Its a fantastic series thats extremely well written and, in my mind, realistic in many ways. (wih the exception of fictional beings)
The House of night is like a cross between Harry Potter and Twilight. I love it and they may be making a movie or tv series, (hmm, another one, eh?). Personally i wouldnt mind if it was, but sometimes making movies and tv series ruin the books and make them more commercialised.
i love the house of night series and i hope they make a series or film about it, but if they do, i hope they dont change it as much as vampire diaries has.
i would like to suggest a book that has nothing to do with vampires but is amazing if you like all supernatural stuff like that.

I liked this series until I started to read Nightfall…wtf!? Does anyone else think that it was a total mess?? It wasnt even anything like the other books in the series. You can still read the books because they’re more thrilling, and for all you “spoilers” Shut it! Let people find out what happens to the characters that’s why they’re called books. You read to find out what IS or what’s GOING to happen to the characters. It’s the same way with a movie. Just because you’ve seen or read it doesn’t mean you have to go and tell people the story yourself. Anyways! Yes PLEASE do read the books. They’re more interesting than the tv series… The tv messes with a lot of things that don’t happen in the books. And just a small turning view on Elena and Jeremy… They’re not brother and sister in the book. Elena has a sister, no brothers. And no that’s not a spoiler… It’s a confusion clear-up.
i am really confused about the people who make the series, they have messed it around loads. even though i love the series, i have just started reading the books and Elena has a little sister called Margert and an aunt called Judith (not Jena) and a nearly uncle called Robert. Elena is meant to have blonde hair and blue eyes but you can see she is quite the oppersite. As well in the books she has another best friend as well as bonnie called Meredith but there is no sign of her in the series, oh and Bonnie is meant to be very pale (which she is not) Caroline is meant to be in a huge mood with Elena and they are not friends for a while in the books but in the first episode you see her hugging Elena and asking if she is ok. On Stefans and Elenas first couple of meetings he is meant to blank her and for a while give the impression of hating her. i love both the series and the books i thought i wouldnt like the books because of knowing of what happened, but its not like that. They have the same main characters and i think its going to the same conclusion but for most of the books they seem completely different to the series and i suggest if you love the series to start on the books, they are way more interesting and you get a better amount of information on all the characters

The books are so captivating, i got a box set with the first four in them a week ago and havn’t been able to stop reading, i have already finished 3 and im starting the Reunion now. They are strange to be reading because i knew about the series first and the books are so different they are like two different things but both equally intreging.
Im not sure if The Return: Midnight is out yet but if not it will be soon, i hope you enjoy the books as much as i do
