Woah. Vampires Much?!
I know some of you might hate me for this, but I can’t help but see the similarities of The Twilight Saga and The Vampire Diaries. Also, when I watch True Blood Online. I mean, yes, they are both about Vampires and two people fighting over a girl. But. Vampire Diaries is so much juicier! I used to be a Twilight fan, okay, I still am! But I think they’ve dragged on the rage for too long that it died out on it’s own. It was crazy with the craze of vampires.
At first, I thought Vampire Diaries was EXACTLY like Twilight, (only Paul Wesley is hotter!) with the vegetarian vampire falling for a human girl. True Blood also has the Vampire/girl love thing going, as did Buffy/Angel. Simple as it looks. But as I ventured on into this world, I realize that Vampire Diaries is so much darker, action-like, and it’s actually feeling like there are Vampires in this world.
In Twilight, they never related back in time unless it was something to do with the Cullen Family itself. But with VD,it’s amazing, there are so many people that know about Mystic Falls’ vampires, that it’s actually a danger for them to stay!
In addition, the chemistry between Damon, Elena and Stefan is more amazing. And just Elena on her own! I mean, Bella was such a pushover in Twilight, and Elena is a strong, independent girl. it just makes it that much better. With Stefan, she can say what she wants, and act as she wishes. She knows that she’s in danger, but she doesn’t care. And Damon is a much stronger rival as Jacob, he backed down. But we all know Damon won’t.
But like I said, Vampire Diaries is much much more than Twilight. Anyone agree?

at first i’m from germany so my english is not the best
). I watch VD ( in english). at the beginning i thought its like twilight. and it was! but after a few episodes i just loved it. its funny, interesting and definitely different as twilight. i love twilight but it’s kind of annoying that edward is so nice and sweet and just perfekt. its always the same edward loves bella and bella loves edward. VD is more mysterious and dangerous. because there are other vampires and of course damon. every person who thinks its a twilight copy should watch more that one episode.
i have the same opinion like you. i’m a big twilight fans ( not one of the crazy ones

I don´t know what to say, at the beggining my situation was like yours.
I have read twilight´s and the vampire diaries´s book. And you are right in some point, the different about damon and jacob is huge, Bella didn´t hesitate to make the decision about with who she belongs.
The intense of love in the vampire diaries is bigger than twilight.
In twilight you know which one is bella going to choose, in the other hand in VD you have no idea…!!!
But i love the two of them, although you are right.
i just think it’s not so fair to say every vampire movie or book is like twilight. twilight is maybe the only vampire story which is successful and huge in every country. so people think every other book or series is similar to it. but that’s wrong. true blood is different and VD is different, too. besides you can’t compare them because VD was written 10 years before twilight. so if there are any similarities then it’s stephenie meyer who stole ideas from VD.
i completely agree with you that no vampire story is the same as any other, and things tend to get compared to twilight as it’s the most popular and well-known and well-advertised vampire story. and just so you know, i am a fan of ALL THREE series (twilight, true blood and the vampire diaries) in no particular order of favor, plus most other vampire stories/movies/shows i’ve read/seen. however, i have to dispute a few things you mentioned.
first: the show is so different from the books. i’ve read all but the most recent tvd book, and basing the quality of the show off similarities to the books, it’s awful and so different. now don’t get me wrong, i ADORE both the books and the show – they’re both AMAAAAZING. they just have to be held in their own light to determine how good they are.
second: the reason the show is being compared to twilight is that the producers or writers or whatever of the show purposely made some changes – mostly visual – to appeal to the twilight fanbase initially. think about it: in the books elena is blonde, but in the show she’s a brunette. in the books, she wasn’t adopted (as far as we know, and although i haven’t read the most recent book yet it doesn’t seem to be going in that direction), and had a 4 year old sister, not a high-school-aged younger brother; plus, book version of her aunt is judith, who has a boyfriend/fiance, not young-and-single-aunt jenna. for the show, they combined elena’s best friends bonnie and meredith from the books. also, just think of the look of parts of the show and stefan’s clothing (most of the time); they made it look more like twilight just to grab those crazed little fans that run after anything that looks like edward and bella. but the story line is SO DIFFERENT, even if it does follow the basic “vamp guy and human girl in love, danger and problems galore” theme.
(not gonna lie, i didn’t like the show at first. at ALL. it was so obvious they were making it look like twilight, and as an avid fan it bothered me. but i gave it another chance and it proved to be on a totally different plane, its own story altogether.)
third: it’s true that the vampire diaries were written in the early 90′s (the first 4 books anyway), so l. j. smith couldn’t have taken any ideas from stephenie meyer, since she started writing twilight in 2005. however, meyer said she wouldn’t read any vampire books once she started writing, because she didn’t want to worry about taking any ideas from anyone else or making her story seem like someone else’s. so neither one “stole ideas” from the other, but honestly, they’re both vampire stories. they’re BOUND to have AT LEAST a couple tiny similarities in their worlds.
so that’s my shpiel. i’ve had this argument before, so i was…prepared, i guess. sorry it was so long, though. haha

im sorry but stephanie myers definately stole vampire diaries i read twilight way before vampire diaries and by the second chapter of vd i was already complaining about how similar they are to bad stephane couldnt write as well as the jl smith

first, when i read the books i thought it was soo lyk twilight but theen i watched the series which is soooo amazing annnd sooo much better than twilight. all my friends ask me if it is better than twilight and i sed YEEES! SOO i soo agree with u in this one
i love VD and i love Twilight. Its just Twilight came first (movie i mean) and im sure some will agree with me when i say i’m more sort of attached to Twilight than i am to VD. Don’t get me wrong i LoooooVe VD.

I like both, but they are the same in some ways and different in others eg. the wa humans are changed. Twilight vampires have no blood in their bodies…
but they are both good

Well it was written first, and because when I read it, I already had this BIASED outline of whats going to happen >> because of Twilight -_-
But its a shame because (I think) VAMPIRE DIARIES IS SOO MUCH BETTER.

I think Meyer may have read Vampire diaries before, and from it she had her inspirational ‘dream’ for Twilight. No worriies, I still loove Twilight BUT I’m ‘craaazy in love’ with Vampire Diaries ^_^
other than the fact that there are only four VD books (unless more came out in the last like week) i totally agree with you meyer probs fell asleep reading VD and had the “insperational dream” about twilight.
there are more VD books…..The Return books have just recently come out. Qoute from the wikipedia page states: “a new spin-off trilogy entitled The Vampire Diaries: The Return, continuing the series, with Damon as the main protagonist. The first installment, The Return: Nightfall, was released on February 10, 2009. The Return: Shadow Souls was released on March 16, 2010. The Return: Midnight is tentatively slated for release in April 2011.”

i used 2 love twilight until i started watchin VD nd understandin how lame nd unreal twilight is
few points :
1. vampires dnt sparkle ! [twilight sux] ;D
2. edward is way 2 "perfect" [no offence 2 fans but i tink hes ugly]
3. its always the same thing over nd over nd over again ! [bela luvs him, he luvs bella]
4. its nt very realistic with the whole thing wen dey turn dey magicaly become gorgeos [lame !! ]
now few VD points
1. much more realistic with the burn in the sun stuff
2. luv da make up with the eyes nd vampires r nt as pale as they are in twilight
3. always diferent always mysterious dangerous nd at sum points quite scary
4. i love da way its all so interestin nd u can never guess wats gona happen next ^^
5. elena is scared wen she finds out hes a vampire [unlike Bella ! O_o]

JUST cause VD follows the myth that vampires burn in the sun doesnt make it more realistic…plus vampires are gorgeous so they can attract prey duhh…also bella isn’t scared when she becomes a vampire because she anticipates that she would and was mentally prepared
But yeah i love both Twilight and Vampire Diaries for different reasons
oops scratch out the last one…i realized u said hes…and just cuz a person is a vampire doesn’t mean you have to be scared…its not like he hurt her or anything…and i think bella isn’t afraid of that kinda of stuff

I love the Vampire Diaries so much more than Twilight.
Elana is so much better than Bella. Bella is just an anoying figure head with the personality of a spoon. Elana is simply awesome.

I was a twilight fan but sorry it became too boring with the perfection VD rocks and both bothers ae soo hot. Good for competion although i love Damon more! Elena is more real and more of what a teenage girl is in the real world. So 10 for VD!!

i think vd and twilight are two seperate things. i mean yes they have there simalairites, but twilight is for the people who like their vampires romantic and vd is for the action lovers, who want their vampires violent.
By the way, The vampires diaries books were written before the twilight books.(and true blood) therefore it is the original. It is just a shame that TV producers took an interest to it after the Twilight books n movies came out. But I have to agree Bella is a wet blanket compared to Elena. Robert Pattinson is hot as but honesltly if a girl like Bella was messing me around like that I would not have wasted my time ( even though he has a lot to spare as a vampire) Damon is great! The man that you love to hate and can’t help liking.
I loved the Twilight books but I don’t find that the actors chosen to play the main characters (except for pattinson and soapy Bella) were not picked well none of them matches the characters in the books! I mean Carlisle is a fake blond. The guy is actually a hot dark hair man and in Twilight he just looks stupid. And Rosalie is supposed to be that hot she like a super model and the girl they picked is kinda of average. The red is is 10 times hotter than her! All wrong… Anyway I said too much. Sorry…
One more comment and I shut up. Pattinson is freaking hot but I wouldn’t mind a piece of Jacob. Love both Twilight and VD!
I agree! Im kinda on the same page as you except im not a Twlight fan anymore. When I read Twilight I was absolutely obsessed with it and Vampires. After reading The Twilight Saga for the 8th time I got super bored of it and turned to some else. This something else was The Vampire Diaries and it is way more realistic than The Twilight Saga. And Paul Wesley is so much hotter than Robert Pattinson. Robert is to hairy and looks constipated whenever he plays Edward. He makes Edward seem ugly! When you read The Vampire Diaries it seems that Stephanie Meyer copied some(VD was made way before Twilight) But The Vampire Diaries didn’t come out until The Twilight Frenzy happened…Oh well its a great show and great books

Yeah I think Stephanie Meyer was a bit too inspired by the VD. I read the Twilight saga only once (I think that was enough for me) I love the books way much more than the movies. (they are a bit of a disapointment) I guess if I had read them many times I would have gotten bored as well. I tend to like keeping a good memory of what I enjoyed by not doing it over and over or wait a fair while before getting into it again. (I’m boring like that)
I do prefer Damon look wise but then again if Paul Wesley was to knock on my door to take me out for diner, I would definitely not say no (sorry boyfriend!) However the VD is a series and has more cliffhangers and that makes it more interesting. You want to watch the next episode as soon as the previous one finishes. It also has more characters and they are all interesting good or bad.

I absolutly love both Twilight and The Vampire Diaries. I loved reading the Twilight books and I have to ammit that I actually prefered them to The Vampire Diaries collection. I have watched The Vampire Diaries from the beginning and I totally agree with what was said above, about the characters being stronger and the realtions to the past. It pains me to say it but I think that The Vampire Diaries wins the title of the best vampire show/film at the moment. And I say at the moment because I am bursting to see how the Eclipse novel has been turned into a movie. But the Twilight Saga wins the best vampire book collection.
