Haven’t Read The Books?

September 28th, 2009 by Courtney

I haven’t read the book, and so far the show is making me want to. Being such an avid reader in the first place I’m surprised I never got around to it. But besides that I’m curious as to how different the books are compared to the show? Should I even read them now? With how much I love the show, will my feelings toward the show, acting, the characters they’ve chosen change. If so then why would I want to ruin my love of such a good show? Because I love almost all the characters they have chosen, don’t you. Well besides the blonde, but I think we’re supposed to hate her a little.

But my favorite on the show is Vicki Donovan (Kayla Ewell) who if I could, would play her.

Who is everyone’s favorite and why???

the tv series has changed A LOT of the things that are in the book. I read the book and been watching this show…the story line is there is just the way the tv show tells the story is different. Like for example, Elena is blonde and popular and her character has been altered a bit. She also has another bff in the book named meredith who is not in the tv series that I have seen. Lets just say if u do read the book, it might effect your feelings toward the tv series. Already im like “thats not the way that happened” or “that character didnt do that or this happened instead” but i’ll keep watching to see how the tv series progress coz the guys are hotttt…and i guess to see how it goes haha.

i have only read the first 2 books (in prep for the show :P if theres a book i usually like to read it before the film/show) and i agree at first i was like this is different. but you have to keep in mind the books were written like 10 years ago so it has to be changed a bit to be made more current.

but no reading the books wont affect your love of the show or casting (especially for Stephan-loved him before the show, love his SO much more now!), but it will give you a better i dea of whats going on in the characters heads and back stories ans what not. since your a reader i definatly recomend them!

oh and i just have to add the scene in first ep were he talks back to the teacher in history class – that was one of my fave parts of the book and when it came on the tv i was like ahh yay! :P

Wow, thanks. Though I just went out and bought the books and started reading the first one. Well lets just say I hate the book cause I started with with the show, and fell in love with how they put it.
Also, I cannot stand the way the book perceives Elena. I like the way the character is on the show. Well since I already bought the books, I might as well read them. But i should of read and took in account what you and everyone said. Opps, haha!

to be honest, i read the books a while ago, and i quite liked them
but after watching this tv show, i don’t want to read them again because i know they are different.

belle has point that the book was written almost 20 years ago, so things are bound to change. I like the perspective change and the insight into modern teenage society

i was thinking about the plot, and i dont think the writers are going to follow it because the ending is really significant and won’t be good for continuing… i think they’re just following the story a bit and then might veer off… i dont know… guess we’ll have to wait and see

I just read the first book, and I didn’t care for it. The show is so much better. I’m so glad Kevin Williamson decided not to follow the book line for line. On the show, the dialogue and the characters ring more true than the book. I realize that the book was written for teenagers, but it was too much of a G-rated/possibly PG-rated book for my taste. The show is edgier. I’m so glad that I decided to watch the show even after being disappointed in the book. I’m obsessed with Damon. Ian Somerhalder is one sexy man and an awesome actor also.

I’ve ready the 1st book, in the process of reading the 2nd one. I like the TV series more though. ^_^”

TV show is nothing like the books at all. I have read them all and perfer them to the show. The show is a pale comparison to me. But to my friend who had only read the first book she likes the show alot and doesn’t want to read anymore because of how it will affect her perceptions of the show.
