Stefan tried to do his best to live in peace with the humans around him but his brother, Damon, is the exact opposite… Brutal and violent.
So the story starts to unfold where to brothers, one evil and one good, battle for Elena’s soul!

I am watching this for the first time. This series is an insult to the books I read as a young adult. L.J. Smith should have held out until “they” agreed to follow the story line exactly. Elena is VERY weak for the main character. Stefan is too old. Unbelievable how they ruined this. I will not be watching any additional episodes.

Well i have also read the books and personally it does somewhat fallow the story line but does stray… I guess its all in putting it together.
omg im so annoyed that they made the main vampire look just like Robert Patterson from twilight, come on same hairstyle, same thick eyebrows, same pale skin color. i dont want to see another Edward in a new t.v. show but other then that i have no complaints i really like the show. also, i was shocked when i heard that older man call the younger looking vampire uncle i was like WHAT!?!? then i laughed my head off. (^_^)
i think the tv show is perfect and yah i agree about the hair but i still think its perfect i think hes better at keeping the secret then edward was. but oh well i love the show and i love twilight but i think twilight was basically just a copy of the vampire diaries in my opinion. but AWESOME show and i just love it! i i do love twilight alot to. hah

-I have no idea so far what the vampire diaries is about… so far i’ve only read 6 chapters. and watched the 4th episode(i keep forgetting its on) and twilight SO DID NOT COPY VAMPIRE DIARIES!!! YOU CAN ONLY FIND A SPARKLEY ASSED VAMPIRE IN TWILIGHT!!!

yall are ALL idiots considering the vampire diaries books were written back in the 90′s YEARS before the twilight books were.. EVERY vampire romance has the same story line to some degree… but if you have such a problem with it THEN DONT WATCH IT stop ruining it for people who actually enjoy it.. i enjoy both twilight and the vampire diaries, and they are similar but they are also extremely different.
Every vampire story has the same basic: Twilight, True Blood and Vampire diaries. It is very little information about them and to make a story about vampires you have to use most of it. But I agree whit you; enjoy everything and suck up every information about them to make a perfect vampire in your dreams. I take my time to watch it because I enjoy it and don’t understand how people can waste their time on something they don’t like..
Actually, Meyers copied Vampire Diaries.
The original Vampire Diaries trilogy was published in 1991, while Twilight book was published 14 years later, in 2005.
I think it is Meyers who is the one doing the copying.
If you have read the Vampire Diaries (Books) then you know that they came out before Twilight, but the TV series has just come out and it only has slight resembelance to Twilightm, but all vampire stories resemble each other.

well robert patterson looks like a worm that decided to crawl out from some deep hole in the earth and smoke crack so i dont really think this guy looks like him but whatever it doesnt really matter anyway and basically every story about vampires have the same plot
its Robert PATTINSON not patterson… and its okay if they have the same lloks.. duh?, they are both vampires… and aLso stefan is way too hotter than Robert… the paLe skin coLor?, duh?? vampires are to have that color because its the only difference they have to us humans… get it???
i agree Edward from twilight looks just like Stefan which is a shame.abd Elena looks just like bella in some way,the first episode is aomehwhat the same as twilight but it was fantastic.Continuing to watch the rest of the eposides watching impatiently
the book was the worst book i ever read in my life!! it’s for children i wouldnt even let my child read it since its SOO BADD i couldnt read the last book :S i hope the series is much better because the actorre hot and they kinda changed the story so i think its ganna be much better !! and btw elena in the book is soooo stupid :\
One of the reasons you might think the book is so terrible is that it seems you are quite illiterate. If not illiterate, then just plain stupid, maybe even both. I hope that your child doesn’t have to critique a book as horribly and grotesquely vulgar as you just have.

I loved ALL the books. I am dissapointed with Elenas brother. She does not have one in the book. Stefan and Damon are cast PERFECT. Elena too much like Bella I agree. But PLEASE do not compaire Twilight with The Vampire Diaries. The Vampire Diaries is a million times better than Twilight. Yes there is some changes, but that happens. Great show. Can’t wait to see more of Damon.

I like how in The Vampire Diaries you get to see more blood and stuff. I am the type of person that likes to see gore and blood. Twilight had none. It’s like the only vampire movie that I’m not big on.
If you prefer more gore and blood, I suggest you watch True Blood. It’s a lot more dark and twisted than Twilight and Vampire Diaries, but it’s great
you should watch ‘interview with a vampire’ got a lot of gore and blood. in it there is brad pitt, tom cruize

ive read all the books of vampire diaries….been some 7yrs ago…..but the book was really nice ….much better than twilight….infact the book was published b4 twilight…..anywaz….hope the tv show as nice as the book been….
i really like this show… admittedly it was similar to twilight, but it was much better then the
twilight movie cos i found the acting pretty bad in it. this was better though… better acting and stefan and damon are way better looking than robert pattinson in twilight. can’t wait to watch the rest of the season =]
I was a little upset when i saw that Elena was being played by a brunette! She was a blonde in the book and i think they just made a mistake on that part. Some other things are different too and i loved the Vampire Diaries the way they were. They were just fine and they had to go change it up…i think that if i hadn’t read the series, i would have liked the tv series much more. Don’t get me wrong…it’s a good show but it could be better. :]
as i read the twilight i like it and so as i watch the vampire diaries , the writer’s has unique in writing and story, i could’nt understand why everyone arguing on whos first and whos copied, but i think copied on anything they just doing they want as entertainment , they both good story.

hmm L.J Smith is an amaszing author (the Night World series is soo much better the TVD, sorry…) and these books were actually written waaayyyy before twilight, so im sorry, but if your arguing about “copying” then, twilight would be copying this. but, keep in mind, the idea for twilight came to Stephanie Myer in a dream, and really, who can copy dreams?

i had to add that when i read that makenzi said Stephan was. im a little sick of this whole charachter like Edward Cullen cause its in every single vampire book these days…. GO DAMON!!

Hey guys. I just started reading Vampire Diaries yesterday, and I can`t help but compare it with Twilight, because i`m a TwiHard. But what can I say, these books are EQUALLY great and nice, no need to say which is better! I love Twilight, and I`m on the road to loving VD too.
This show is a dissapointment because i mean like it doesnt even fit what elena is supposed to look like and i honestly can not believe how it doesnt even fit the story line

I have to say i am a huge fan of twilight
however my mum got me the vampire diary books for christmas and i read the two of them in two days, they where really good and i cant wait for it to come out in the uk. and as for who the copier is …. we neeed to know which BOOK was released first 
People, calm down about twilight and the vampire diaries. Yes, vampire diaries was out first, however, i’m sure it was an insperation for the twilight series along with the likes of Romeo & Juliet. They are books for goodness sake, not real, the characters may be real in some sense, but the stories are not. I enjoy both the twilight saga and the vampire diaries, however do agree that better casting could be done for the tv programme.

I read the vampire diaries series in a few days. couldn’t put them down. i don’t understand why it matters if anyone think anything was copied. they are different, even if they both have similar views about vamps. and stuff alot more series have similarites.. i loved both twilight and the vampire diaries. i’m a bit disappointed about the differences between the vamp. diaries books and the show.. i don’t like the addition and removal of characters and i don’t like how elena is alot different in the show.. but otherwise it’s good. and the books were great.
i think they did a terrible job too. stefan wasnt staying away at all he was to close, not holding back at all. and elena was to weak i agree. they did not wait long enough for demon to come in. it was nothing like the book she wasnt blonde i hated it and will not be watching anymore!
i also think twilight copied vampire diaies just a little but are still differences. but i love the vampire diaries books!!!! XD damon is dangerous but sexy and stefan is protective and alarmingly hot. the books are sooo addictive they make you want to read more!
edward from twilight whatever his name it is just not attractive he has a no persanality it seems and they was no feeling in the movie….with te book i thought it could have been better there could have been so much that could have happened….she did a great job at writing them but they still could have had more…….
L.J. Smith has done a great job at writing the Vampire Diaries, they are very discribtive and they dont crag on about the wining and the crying and all that crap.
These two books are a like but in many ways they are different..
if you dont like them though then dont watch them or read them….im not a big fan of ether of them but i still read them…i keep an open mind about both of them and they are completely different.

Omg stop comparing there r differences between vampire diaries even though i just started watching n im almost done the book. first in twilight it shows edwards whole family. 2 in vampire diaries it didnt show the whole family 3 edward sparkles damon nor stefan does. 4 twilight the 3 pplz victoria james n laurent mostly attacks bella. 5 vampire diaries the vampires attack different ppls leave twilight n vampire diaries alone
